Wind gusts hit 91 - Bozievich on Our Town - Gas surges 30-cents a gallon - Heceta Water open house

Late Season Storm Crashes into the Coast…

A high wind of 91 miles an hour was recorded early this morning at Sea Lion Caves as a late-season storm struck the central Oregon Coast. A widespread power outage affected much of the area south of the Siuslaw River for nearly two hours, but utility crews quickly repaired the bulk of the damage and continued to work on scattered outages. No major problems were reported from the wind but there were reports of some trees down and a lot of debris on the roadways.

A High Wind Warning is in effect until noon today… a Marine Storm Warning until one. The National Weather Service is saying the strongest winds are nearly over and should subside through the day.

Jay Bozievich says it’s everything he expected it would be, and some things he didn’t. The Elmira civil engineer wrapped up his first two months on the job as a Lane County Commissioner last week. He knew going into it that the job would take a lot of time and attention. But what surprised his was the number of meetings. Bozievich says he’s used to working long hours, so that doesn’t really bother him. He also enjoys the contact he’s had with a wide variety of people. (noon only) Bozeivich will be on this afternoon’s KCST’s Our Town from four to six pm on KCST.

Retail gas prices are soaring as unrest in several Middle East countries drove up the price of crude oil. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to Triple-A, shot up 20 cents this week to $3.38. Oregon’s average price surged 13 cents a gallon and is at $3.48. There’s been a local spike in prices as well. 30-cents a gallon on average in the past week… the Florence average price is now at $3.38 a gallon.

Residents of the Heceta Water District will have a chance this weekend to take a ‘virtual tour’ of their water production and distribution system. The water board will be hosting what they intend to be the first of many annual meetings, giving rate payers a chance to talk one-on-one with them and get an up close look at their processes. District Manager Scott Meyer said commissioners and staff will be on hand to talk about the budget process, how money is spent and what future plans are in store. The annual meeting is set for Driftwood Shores from 12:30 to 3:00 Saturday afternoon.

Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - Police in Hillsboro are investigating an
apparent murder-suicide in which they say a 54-year-old man fatally
shot his 6-year-old son and then killed himself. The bodies were

no connection to the church. No names have been released.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A Tigard man has pleaded guilty to
operating an illegal money transferring operation that funneled

wire transactions. A plea deal calls for no more than 18 months in
prison.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police say they clocked an
Interstate 5 driver at 97 mph Tuesday in the Eugene area and

Legislature for more power to manage their affairs, as they

the schools greater control over personnel, construction and fees.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Defense lawyers seeking a new trial for an
official of an Islamic charity have asked a judge to take the U.S.
attorney's office in Oregon off the case. The unusual request came

driver's license numbers were included in the response. The county
did not redact the information.

Wildlife says it has fitted three more wolves from the northeast
