Coast Radio rolls out new monthly news magazine; body of missing Eugene woman found; two Siuslaw students memorialized and gas goes up

Coast Radio to roll out new monthly broadcast news magazine.. .

After nearly two decades on KCST, the Community Forum public affairs program is undergoing a major change. A new two-hour monthly program called KCST’s Our Town will launch this afternoon. The new program will feature the Community forum, but also include more ‘one-on-one’ conversations with various people about a central theme relevant to ‘our town’. The topic of today’s show, the special election on two tax measures that, if approved by voters in the January 26th special election, would generate roughly $720-million for state services. Newport representative Jean Cowan will describe the background of legislation that led to Measures 66 and 67. Bend Republican Chris Telfers will talk about how Measure 67 will cost jobs, while Eugene businessman Tim Berry says it will actually create jobs. The Community Forum segment of the show features Coos Bay Democrat Arnie Roblan, one of the chief architects of the two measures. Anti-tax advocate Russ Walker is expected to provide his views on the measures as well. KCST’s Our Town airs from four to six pm this afternoon.

The body of a Eugene woman, last seen leaving her home more than a week ago, was found not far from where her car was found over the weekend. Searchers found the body of 41-year old Cindie Kogle late yesterday near Richardson Upriver Road, just off Highway 126 between Mapleton and Walton. The Lane County Sheriff’s office says the cause and manner of the woman’s death are under investigation. A sheriff’s department spokesman also said media coverage and public involvement aided in finding Kogle’s remains.

The lives of two Siuslaw High School students will be remembered when a pair of trees planted in their honor take root and grow over the coming years.
200 – “The trees are dedicated to Montana Oetken who died in a car accident south of town at the age of 18; and also Ian Foster who died about five years ago at the age of 15, drowning at the North Jetty.”

Jade Herbert said she and a friend, Genessa Mitchell, realized there was nothing at the school to mark the passing of the two. They brought the idea to school administrators who gave them full support. The trees were donated and planted near the softball fields. A dedication is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 2:30.
